Immersive audio recording sadly lost a key figure: Professor Angelo Farina

Zylia in nature

In recent years, recording and ambisonic applications have made extraordinary progress. This advancement is in part due to the invaluable work of Professor Angelo Farina, who sadly passed away a few days ago.

Farina, a full professor of Environmental Technical Physics at the University of Parma, was a key figure in the development of immersive audio, applied acoustics, and spatialization techniques.

His scientific contributions, along with his generous sharing of tools, documents, and insights, have shaped and continue to shape generations of engineers, sound designers, researchers, and enthusiasts.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, colleagues, students, and to all who had the privilege of working with him.

To all of you who practice field recording with depth and care:

We warmly invite you to discover who this man was. You’ll soon realize how much of our current (and future) sonic landscape bears his influence.

Rest in peace, Maestro.🙏
